Fans of the Harry Potter saga could not imagine the blockbuster wizard films without Emma Watson playing the role of Hermione Granger, but the actress herself has confessed that years ago she considered retiring from the franchise, as well as how she had a huge crush on fellow actor, Tom Felton.
She made revelations during “Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts” the HBO Max’s reunion show.
Watson reveals she had a crush on Felton when they first met all those years ago, noting the exact moment she “fell in love” with the Draco Malfoy actor. She also contemplated leaving her role as Hermione before filming the fifth movie.
“You were considering pulling out, I’ve never really spoken to you about that,” actor Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) told Watson.
“Yeah. I think I was scared. I don’t know if you ever felt like it got to a tipping point where you were like, this is kind of forever now” – Emma Watson responded to her former casting partner ‘Rupert‘.
And about how Watson’s big crush on Tom Felton came to be, for years now Potter fans have been wishing for a romance between Watson and Tom Felton, when they have frequently being spotted together—and started posting photos of each other and their numerous beach hangouts and guitar lessons on Instagram.
“I walked into the room where we were having tutoring. The assignment that had been given was to draw what you thought God looked like, and Tom had drawn a girl with a backward cap on a skateboard,” Watson said.
“And I just don’t know how to say it – I just fell in love with him. He was three years above me and so for him he was like, ‘You’re like my little sister.”
Felton knew about Watson’s feelings for him, thanks to a few gossipy crew members who alerted him to the that.
“I think I was in the hair and make-up chair and someone said something along the lines of, ‘Yeah, she had a crush on you,'” Felton said
“I became very protective over her,” he added. “Yeah, I’ve always had a soft spot for her and that continues to this day. There’s always been something that’s like, I don’t know, a kinship.”
In 2011, she told Seventeen, “For the first two movies, I had a huge crush on Tom Felton. He was my first crush. He totally knows. We talked about it – we still laugh about it. We are really good friends now, and that’s cool.”
