Kanye West, the Weeknd, and Lil Baby have won the Best Melodic Rap Performance award at the 2022 Grammys for their Donda song “Hurricane.” They beat out fellow nominees J. Cole (“Pride Is the Devil” with Lil Baby), Doja Cat (“Need to Know”), Lil Nas X (“Industry Baby” with Jack Harlow), and Tyler, the Creator (“WusYaName” with YoungBoy Never Broke Again and Ty Dolla $ign).
This is Ye’s second win of the day. The renowned producer-rapper also took home the Grammy for Best Rap Song with “Jail,” which features Jay Z, marking the first time the longtime collaborators have worked together since falling out in 2016. Like “Hurricane,” “Jail” also appeared on Ye’s album Donda, which was named after Kanye’s late mother, Dr. Donda West.
West had won 22 Grammys since his 2004 debut College Dropout. He’s nominated for five awards this year, including Best Rap Song, Best Rap Album, and Album of the Year. He won for Best Rap Song (“Jail”) but lost Best Rap Album to Tyler, the Creator.
The song was also nominated in the Best Music Video category but lost to Beyoncé and her daughter, Blue Ivy, who won for “Brown Skin Girl.”
