Begun yesterday 7th October, High-life legend Gyedu Blay Ambolley and his Sekondi Band started their Europe Springs tour at Saubrigues Scène Aux Champs – La Mamisèle, to thrill music lovers which will run through the rest of the month October, visiting Paris, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Lisbon, Copenhagen, Brussels, Gothenburg, Malmo, Saubriges & Mugron.

This tour is a promotional album tour Gyedu-Blay Ambolley and Hi-Life Jazz; Gyedu-Blay Ambolley and Hi-Life Jazz is the new album from revered Ghanaian highlife and Simigwa Do exponent Gyedu-Blay Ambolley, known for his deep, soulful, and funky highlife sound and sometimes referred to as the “James Brown of Ghana.”

Gyedu-Blay Ambolley and Hi-Life Jazz’s 35th album release is a musical tour de force, as is evidenced by his impressive and eclectic back catalogue. On his third Agogo album, Ambolley breathes new life into jazz classics, revisiting works by John Coltrane (Love Supreme), Thelonius Monk (Round Midnite), Wayne Shorter (Footprints), and Miles Davis (All Blues). Polyrhythms and highlife style drive his new compositions.

Ebo Taylor and Sammy Larteh are two of Ghana’s greats with whom Gyedu-Blay Ambolley shared stages and studios since the 1970s, when he first pioneered his own Simigwa style, according to label – Agogo Records.

He has recently become a go-to example of Ghana’s rich traditional music form, so much so that he has performed tirelessly through Europe and the US and especially at Utrecht’s Le Guess Who Festival and the Montreux Jazz Festival.
