Birdman is working on a sequel to Cash Money’s Baller Blockin’ Hood with NBA YoungBoy.
On Wednesday (October 12), the Louisiana natives teased the film’s release on their respective social media pages, sharing a movie poster with the title Baller Blockin2.
The poster also featured an image of downtown New Orleans, the birthplace of Birdman’s Cash Money empire, as well as the logos for Cash Money Records, Rich Gang, and YoungBoy Never Broke Again.
“BALLA BLOCKIN 2 KIN SOON #CMNBARG,” Birdman wrote on Instagram, while NBA YoungBoy asked his YouTube subscribers, “Who do you want to see in this movie?”
Baller Blockin was a dramatic retelling of life in New Orleans’ notorious Magnolia Projects that was released in December 2000, following the rise of Cash Money and Hot Boys.
Lil Wayne, Juvenile, B.G., Turk, Mannie Fresh, Birdman, and Cash Money co-founder Ronald “Slim” Williams appeared in the film, as did actor-comedians T.K. Kirkland and the late Anthony “A.J.” Johnson.
Baller Blockin was accompanied by a soundtrack album that included music from the label’s all-star roster as well as outside guests such as Nas, E-40, UGK, 8Ball & MJG, and Mack 10. After selling over 80,000 copies in its first week, it debuted at No. 13 on the Billboard 200.
Birdman and NBA YoungBoy are no strangers to collaboration, having previously collaborated on the mixtape From the Bayou last year. The long-awaited album debuted in the top 20 on the Billboard 200, earning Baby and YoungBoy a nomination for Best Duo or Group at the BET Hip Hop Awards in 2022.
YoungBoy Never Broke Again channeled Cash Money’s influence once more earlier this month with the surprise mixtape 3800 Degrees, the title and cover art of which referred to Juvenile’s multi-platinum 1998 album 400 Degreez.
Juve noticed the tribute and congratulated the young Baton Rouge rap star on Instagram. “I just want to thank @neverbrokeagainllc for redoing 400 degrees in his own way at the pinnacle of his career appreciate the love young boss,” he wrote.
