For the first time, John Legend is speaking out about Blake Shelton’s sudden resignation from The Voice.
The renowned country musician announced this week on October 12 that he would no longer be taking part in the reality program. Since the show’s premiere in 2011, Shelton is the only original coach who has consistently appeared on it.
Blake Shelton, 46, was referred to by John Legend as the “heart” and “soul” of the singing competition when discussing the singer’s departure from The Voice in an interview with ET.
Although this was the case, John Legend expressed sympathy for Shelton’s decision to leave the show, saying, “Well, you know, he’s been doing the show for 22 seasons, it’ll be 23 when he’s done, and you can’t do anything forever.”
We will, however, miss having him around. In addition to being a close friend of mine, he has long been the program’s anchor and its driving force. Working with him is quite fulfilling for me, he continued.
Shelton expressed a lot of emotion in his initial statement. “Watching this program has directly benefited every aspect of my life, and it constantly makes me feel like I’m at home.
The past 12 years of chair turns have been an incredible journey, and I want to thank everyone at The Voice from NBC, including every producer, writer, musician, crew member, and caterer. You guys are the best, by far. He noted at the time, “It takes a tremendous amount of effort, excitement, and alcoholic drinks (ha!) to successfully conduct a live concert twice a week.
Shelton has decided to retire from the show after the 23rd season. All of the current coaches, including Legend, Camila Cabello, and Shelton’s wife, Gwen Stefani, will step out at the end of this season. Chance the Rapper, Niall Horan, and Kelly Clarkson, who is returning as a coach, will appear alongside Shelton during his final time on the show.
He also holds the record for the most victories with eight under his belt already. In addition to this, NBC reported that he has taught 15 musicians who have had songs reach No. 1 on the Top Songs list on iTunes.
