In an interview with Variety published Wednesday, Duchess Meghan Markle finally speaks out about Queen Elizabeth’s death. We all know that Meghan and Harry’s travel to Britain for the funeral of the Queen was contentious considering all that has been going on with the family, but it appears that Meghan is now talking about the trip for the first time.
she said to variety “I’m really grateful to that I was able to be with my husband to support him, especially during that time, adding there’s been such an outpouring of love and support.”
Meghan and Harry made their way to the UK from California, where they had relocated after stepping down from their royal responsibilities in 2020. to attend the queen’s burial after her passing on September 8th. Meghan stated in the interview that Harry, the queen’s 38-year-old grandson, has found comfort in the idea that the late monarch has been “reunited with her husband,” the late Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, who passed away aged 99 in April 2021.
The Sussex family remained in the UK. notwithstanding the royal family’s period of sorrow, and they were there on September 19 for the queen’s funeral.
Additionally, on September 10, the two were seen out and about with Prince William and Kate, the Princess of Wales, in front of Windsor Castle. The couples met others in the public who had gathered to mourn Elizabeth’s passing and observed memorials to the monarch.
She lauded the queen, the oldest British monarch in history at 96 years old, as “the most shining example” of what female leadership should be like.
Meanwhile she also suggested that the changes to their much anticipated Netflix documentary means that it’s not how she would have told it but, that she still trusts it will workout okay. The docuseries is being directed by Liz Garbus, a U.S.-based documentary filmmaker.
“It’s nice to be able to trust someone with our story — a seasoned director whose work I’ve long admired — even if it means it may not be the way we would have told it,” said Meghan. “But that’s not why we’re telling it. We’re trusting our story to someone else, and that means it will go through their lens.”
Meghan, who gave up acting when she married Harry in 2018, continued, “It’s interesting. My husband has never worked in this industry before. For me, having worked on ‘Suits,’ it’s so amazing to be around so much creative energy and to see how people work together and share their own points of view. That’s been really fun.”
