“Surviving Summer” will be back for Season 2 on Netflix.

The wildly popular Australian thriller, which has become a worldwide smash for Netflix, is back for a second season. Season 2 will have the ensemble returning to the famous beaches of the Great Ocean Road in Victoria (Wadawurrung Country), Australia, for an additional 8 episodes. The season is produced by Werner Film Productions and ZDF Studios, which also serves as the worldwide distributor.

Que Minh Luu, director of content for Netflix ANZ, said it was a thrill to be back for round two.

“We’re absolutely stoked that “Surviving Summer” made waves both here at home and around the world, and are proud to be bringing this brilliant Aussie teen series back to Netflix for a second season. Bringing the creative team at Werner Productions and our wonderful young cast back together again is a thrill, and we can’t wait to share the next chapter of this quintessentially Australian story with the world,” she said.

The producer Joanna Werner added: “The response from fans around the world was overwhelming as audiences fell in love with Summer, Ari, Marlon, Bodhi and Poppy and their adventures both in and out of the surf.

We are thrilled to be bringing our amazing cast and crew back together for Season 2 and can’t wait to be back filming all along the Great Ocean Road. Here’s hoping we get some epic surf.”

Katharina Pietzch, director junior at ZDF Studios, said she can’t wait for the global success story to continue.

“We have been partnering with both Werner Film Productions and Netflix on several exciting and very popular projects over many years. Therefore, we are thrilled to have brought the partners together and to again be on board for the second season of “Surviving Summer” as both co-producer and worldwide distributor. It is exciting to see that the series has found so many fans around the world in such a short time,” she said.

When Season 1 was published in June of this year, it garnered over 20 million viewing hours in its first week and entered the Top 10 shows in more than 40 nations, including Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Brazil.

The story of Summer Torres, a disobedient New York girl moved to Australia to live with family friends in a small beach town on Victoria’s gorgeous South West coast, is told in Surviving Summer, a book brimming with Australian culture.

In the lead character of Summer, played by Sky Katz (Raven’s Home), a New York City teen rebel expelled from school and banished to Australia causes controversy among a young surfer’s inner group and creates a disaster in her wake. Joao Gabriel Marinho (Malhacao), Kai Lewins (Wild Boys), and Savannah La Rain, all from Brazil, co-star with her (Content). Lilliana Bowrey, a five-time Queensland junior state surf champion who is making her acting debut, is also a part of the cast.

Josh Mapleston (Ready For This, Beat Bugs, Dance Academy) and Joanna Werner, the head of the three-time Emmy-nominated Werner Film Production firm, came up with the idea for Surviving Summer. The drama series is a ZDF Studios and Werner Film Production co-production that also receives funding from Film Victoria and was created with the help of Screen NSW.
