People will be talking about Saweetie‘s hot opinion on the state of hip-hop music. According to Saweetie, violent rap lyrics have damaged hip hop’s enjoyable, party atmosphere. On Monday (Nov. 21), the “Best Friend” rapper sat down with Bootleg Kev to talk about a variety of topics, including her brand-new songs, double standards, and the recent trend of musicians dying in gun violence.

She simply responded “yes,” but there is an even bigger shift happening, when asked if she had observed a change in the Los Angeles music industry following the significant deaths of rappers like PnB Rock and Half Ounce this year.

“I mean, in LA and other cities, it just goes to show that this is the reason why women are running rap and hip hop. There’s just so much violence and disrespect in the male music,” said Saweetie.

She continued by saying that less than ten years ago, a number of chart-topping artists released songs that kicked off the celebration. However, it appears that certain male rappers nowadays are brazenly increasing violence.

“Remember when like YG, Tyga, and Chris were out?” the artist continued. “It was fun party music, Big Sean…T-Fly, but it wasn’t like, ‘I’m going to do this to you and this, this, this,’ you know?”

Saweetie continued by saying that, generally speaking, there seems to be a lack of love and empathy in contemporary music. The Grammy-nominated artist said, “I feel like we have increase the vibration with the music and get back to having a good time.”

The Single Life, a six-track project by Saweetie that includes songs like “DON’T SAY NOTHING” and “NO RECEPTION,” was just released. The Bay Area native made a suggestion that her new music might touch on some of the myths around her before the EP’s release on November 18.
