Zendaya (Chani), who is currently filming in Abu Dhabi for Denis Villeneuve’s Dune sequel, posted a breathtaking image of the desert that will serve as Arrakis on Instagram.

Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part 2 in Abu Dhabi is still in production, and star Zendaya has taken to Instagram to share a fresh image from on and around the set. Although it is obvious that the Euphoria actress is not dressed as her character, Chani, the image does a great job of highlighting the size of the desert, which will once more serve as a stand-in for the arid, spice-producing planet known as Arrakis.

The spice from Arrakis, a made-up desert planet, which is the greatest treasure in the Dune universe, plays a significant role in the film. Chani Kynes, a Fremen who lives on the hostile planet, is the home of Zendaya’s character.

Although Zendaya didn’t do much in the first Dune, it has been announced that Chani will play a considerably larger role in the sequel when her people, The Fremen, join Paul Atreides on his “crusade” to free Arrakis of its harsh Harkonnen rulers (she basically only appeared in the opening and closing sequences).

“And she’s really become a sister. I’m so grateful to count her as a partner and a sister and a friend,” Timothee Chalamet said of his co-star during a recent interview with Variety. “She’s bringing exactly what she brought to the first one — which was incredible — but in greater abundance.”

Along with Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Javier Bardem as Stilgar, Stellan Skarsgrd as Baron Harkonnen, and Dave Bautista as The Beast, Chalamet will co-star with Zendaya in the movie. Josh Brolin and Stephen McKinley have both announced their return. Austin Butler, who played Feyd-Rautha in Dune: Part One, Florence Pugh, who plays Princess Irulan, Christopher Walken, who plays Emperor Shaddam IV, Léa Seydoux, who plays Lady Margot, and Souheila Yacoub, who plays Fremen fighter Shishakli are all newcomers to the cast.

There is a lot riding on the impending sequel because Villeneuve’s ability to complete or at least continue adapting the novel series will depend on how well it does. In the hopes that the potential would materialize, he expressed interest in a Dune Messiah adaptation. If Guadagnino’s recollections are any indication, Dune: Part 2 will be just as opulent and magnificent as its predecessor.

The newest cast members of Dune: Part 2 include Lea Seydoux as Lady Margot Fenring, Austin Butler as Feyd Rautha, Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, and the renowned Christopher Walken as The Emperor. Roles from the original movie will be played again by Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Stellan Skarsgrd, Josh Brolin, and Dave Bautista.

According to the synopsis, “Part Two will center on Paul gathering a huge army of Fremen to fight the merciless Harkonnen, as he effectively becomes a mythological messiah figure to the population of Arrakis.”

Dune: Part Two is set to be released in theaters on November 2, 2023 this was recently pushed back from October 20, 2023. Check out the trailer for Dune down below.
