In response to The Hollywood Reporter’s shocking claim from Wednesday, Jason Gunn spoke out about the significant changes that have been believed to be taking place in the DC world. However, he was less precise about what is or is not happening.
A shocking report published by The Hollywood Reporter yesterday evening made it very obvious that the DCU will not serve as the DCEU 2.0.
Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel sequel has been shelved, while Wonder Woman 3 narrative idea by Patty Jenkins was also rejected by DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran because it didn’t fit with their vision. Additionally, it appears that the DCEU actors won’t be playing their original parts again because Jason Momoa is now being considered to portray Lobo rather than Aquaman.
There will undoubtedly be fans who are sad about possibly saying goodbye to their favorite actors and the heroes or villains they have spent the last few years portraying. However, a fresh start may be best for this franchise.
Gunn has since tweeted several responses in response to the story.
He claims that some of the information that has been reported is accurate, some of it is only partially accurate, and some of it is incorrect. Gunn continues, “It’s crucial that they address what isn’t functioning, and knows there will be some fans who won’t be thrilled with what that implies, even if establishing a cohesive 10-year plan includes making hard decisions.”
Although this first month at DC has been fruitful, building the next ten years of story takes time & we’re still just beginning.

The director concludes by pleading for patience and promising to work alongside Safran to do these DC characters credit, without necessarily confirming or rejecting anything in specific. Even if it necessitates a complete reboot, we can’t really ask for much more than that.
But, in the end, the drawbacks of that transitional period were dwarfed by the creative possibilities & the opportunity to build upon what has worked in DC so far & to help rectify what has not.

As for more answers about the future of the DCU, I will sadly have to ask you to wait. We are giving these characters & the stories the time & attention they deserve & we ourselves still have a lot more questions to ask & answer. pic.twitter.com/sxwKGRD3vc
