Fans were anticipating a battle between mega performers like Adele, Harry Styles, and Kendrick Lamar for the night’s top prizes as the 65th Grammy Awards ceremony was broadcast on Sunday.
Actress Viola Davis won the final Grammy Award required for her to complete an EGOT, and Beyoncé won the record for most Grammy wins in history. Harry Styles won the GRAMMY for Best Pop Vocal Album for Harry’s House.
Tyler Johnson and Kid Harpoon, who served as Styles’ key co-producers on Harry’s House, joined him on stage. “Creating this record with two of my best friends and sharing it with the public has been the greatest experience of my life from beginning to end,” the artist said.
Styles, who dated Swift from 2012 to 2013, beat fellow nominees ABBA (Voyage), Adele (30), Coldplay (Music of the Spheres) and Lizzo (Special) for the honor.
Styles described making Harry’s House with two of his best friends as “the greatest experience of my life” and playing it for people “the greatest joy I couldve asked for”.
This year, he was nominated in six categories; in addition to Best Pop Vocal Album, he received recognition for Album of the Year (Harry’s House), Record of the Year (As It Was), Song of the Year (As It Was), Best Pop Solo Performance (As It Was), and Best Music Video (As It Was).
Another award went to Harry’s House: Best Non-Classical Engineered Album.
At the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, the 65th annual Grammy Awards are being presented to the best songs, compositions, and artists of the eligibility year, which runs from October 1, 2021, to September 30, 2022.
Styles took home his first Grammy in 2021, when his radio hit “Watermelon Sugar” picked up the win for Best Pop Solo Performance. He also performed the song on the Grammys stage that year, with Devonté Hynes (aka Blood Orange) on bass.
Styles shared a handful of colorful music videos for his Harry’s House singles last year: He started with “As It Was,” then shared a slumber-party themed “Late Night Talking” visual, and then released the clip for “Music for a Sushi Restaurant,” which starred Styles as a merman.
